What is B.S.A?
Brilliant Street Academy (BSA) is a part-time preschool and two-day-a-week Parent's Morning Out (PMO) program in the Mableton community located at the Vinings Lake Church. The name "Brilliant Street" is based on the idea that children’s academic success is achieved by receiving a concrete foundation early in life. The program will open September 14, 2020, and is aligned with the Cobb County School District (CCSD) calendar year.
The program has two segments:
PMO: two days a week (ages 2) with a maximum of 8 hours per week on Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
Preschool: (ages 2-4) five days with a maximum of 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
Each group has its schedule of activities and remains intact throughout the day so that each child's primary teacher and assistant remain constant.
This caring and worry-free quality educational program offer a unique and rigorous project-based curriculum with instruction essential for early learning and development. The program combines various inspired approaches and high educational standards intertwined with love and nurturing to create a safe, welcoming, healthy, child-centered environment. BSA is a diverse and multicultural environment that ensures teachers aim to elevate in children’s a higher-level critical thinking, knowledge, and skills sufficient to help them throughout their academic lives and beyond.
The BSA mission is to provide children with authentic and comprehensive early childhood experiences with an individualized curriculum and instruction.
Our vision is to ensure each child develops strong, helpful skills that can be applied throughout life. The program promotes safety in nurturing, loving, and operates within a caring environment and teaches children etiquette and self-reliance. Teaching children critical thinking and problem solving will facilitate better communication with their peers and others, thus, resolving many life issues more harmoniously. Our goal is to develop a strong foundation and prepare each child for future academic success while instilling a deep desire to become a life-long learner.
Brilliant Street Academy strives to combine various educational inspired approaches and high educational standards that intertwine with the VL church mission of being a fully-inclusive environment. Children learn by exploring, creating, and growing to become well-rounded. At BSA, each child is respected and treated as a unique individual in his or her own way. Our teaching encourages each child's participation in a variety of age-appropriate learning materials and activities in both indoor and outdoor settings.
Curriculum and Instruction
B.S.A uses a combination of ideas inspired by early childhood education experts individualized to fit each child's needs and experiences into his or her environment. The curriculum and instruction include domains of early childhood learning and development. The areas of early childhood education include language, literacy, cognition, social and emotional health, physical skills, and life skills. Students, as scientists themselves, learn through exploration and adventure. BSA also uses Georgia's early learning and development standards as a guideline.
The curriculum and instruction have been developed from research-based materials include hands-on activities that are inspired by the theories and approaches of Piaget, Vygotsky, and Reggio Emelia. At BSA, children are presented with various experiences to identify issues and develop creative solutions. "Explore and Learn through Play" is our motto.

PRINCIPLES OF BRILLIANT STREET ACADEMY
Brilliant Street Academy is led by Ms. Morgan, who has a Masters of Arts in Education degree specializing in Early Childhood Education. She is also a Ph.D. scholar currently in the dissertation process specializing in leadership and policy while she continues to use research-based materials and activities to teach children. Ms. Morgan also has a business administration and pre-law degree background.
Her experiences in early childhood education include owning and managing a childcare facility for six years, working as a classroom teacher for over 10 years, and serving as the curriculum director for a preschool. She has taught language at an international school in Atlanta and served as a substitute teacher for Cobb County. She understands and values the importance of quality education.
As a member of Vinings Lake Church, a Sunday school teacher, a mother of three children, and an educator, Ms. Morgan believes that it is necessary to give back to the community by providing an essential quality early childhood education program that children so need.
Her background also includes success as an athlete. She was an NCAA all-American mid-to-long distance runner and won numerous national championships. She was inducted into several halls of fame and received an Athlete of the Year award in 1995. She has extraordinary determination and strong leadership traits, as well as the professionalism and courage to achieve her goals.
Ms. Morgan's life experiences, graduate research, experience in curriculum development and knowledge of cognitive development and her many years of experience working with children from a variety of backgrounds and age groups set her apart in implementing best practices for young children in the field of early childhood education.
Brilliant Street Academy's prospective staff members undergo a thorough and in-depth hiring process which includes a background check on each applicant. In addition, all teachers receive an extensive orientation, professional development, and training throughout the school year. Training includes first aid and CPR. Our four-year-old classes are taught by teachers who hold degrees in education, specializing in early childhood education.
Brilliant Street Academy is located in Mableton, Georgia- Cobb County. BSA is an exciting opportunity that provides safe and secure childcare for the nearby communities and neighborhood. BSA promotes a diverse and multicultural environment that includes intergenerational interaction with the elderly to help develop wisdom, sensitivity, and understanding in the children.
